The Anacostia Community Boathouse hosted the third Youth River Sports Day back on August 8th. About 225 people visited the boathouse this year for a fun day on the Anacostia River with rowing, paddling, CrossFit, and the ever popular river tours. The kids has a great time on the dragon boats and this year they could not get enough of the rowing barges. Of course a day at the boathouse would not be complete without lunch. When it came time to eat, the boathouse volunteers could barely keep up.
Special thanks to our sponsors this year.
Also a huge thank you to all the volunteers from the boathouse community - each of 10 ACBA member organizations sent volunteers making this yet another example of what a great community can accomplish. Thanks everyone.
DC Strokes Rowing Club just returned from a successful trip to Europe for the 2nd World Outgames. Competing against great teams from around the world, Strokes brought home 4 golds, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Congrats Strokes on a great run and for representing Washington and the boathouse so well across the pond.
Gonzaga Crew, one of boathouse’s 4 high school rowing organizations, made the trek to England this year to row. This is not your average regatta trip. Gonzaga Crew was invited to row in the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta. This races hosts the best of the best each year and is a traditional favorite for rower and spectator alike. Their 8+ (“eight”) was one of 38 entries in the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup. The team raced in the 8+ and the 2- (“pair”). The team represented their school, their boathouse, and their country admirably by winning their first round. They were beaten in the second round. Congratulations to the gentlemen from Gonzaga on their stellar showing!
