Learn to Row and Learn to Paddle!
Through its ten scholastic and community-based member organizations, the Anacostia Community Boathouse Association will provide learn to row and learn to paddle opportunities at the festival. Come to the ACBA tent to sign up and learn about the many non-motorized watersport activities that we offer to youth, college students, adults, seniors, and athletes with disabilities.

Boats Available to Row and Paddle at the Festival:
2 Rowing barges (each holds 8 people)
2 Dragon boats (each holds 15 people)
2 Outrigger canoes (each holds 6 people)
All boats provide a safe, stable platform and are built to teach novice rowers and paddlers. Anyone under the age of 13 is required by law to wear a personal flotation device. Life jackets for kids and adults will be provided.

Learn to Row:

on Land...(Left) Visit our tent and try out a Concept2 rowing machine!
With this on-land rowing simulation, our coaches will teach you the fundamentals you need to train at the gym or prepare for on the water rowing. On-land rowing is accessible for all ages and physical abilities.

...and on Water! (Below)
Participants can also join our coaches in a rowing adventure on the Anacostia River.
From the instructional barge, you'll learn the basics of an Olympic sport while taking in the sights and sounds of the Anacostia.

Learn to Paddle:

Get in rhythm with your fellow festival-goers in a dragon boat!
Hop in our colorful 45-foot vessels and learn to move in unison with up to 14 other people from all over DC.

You can also join us in a 6-person outrigger canoe for an action-packed learn to paddle and tour of the Anacostia. In the company of our experienced paddlers and fellow adventure seekers, you’ll learn the basics of outrigger racing!
